THE CLUB FLEET
The Club currently owns a fleet of sailboats, and 4 stand-up paddleboards, all of which are available for use by members and their children without charge. Members are required to sign the boats out and in with the Steward and to sign a Watercraft Use Waiver prior to use.
SYC Watercraft include:
Three Ynglings, 21' fiberglass keel sloops. These boats are available for qualified Club members’ use when not being used by the Junior Sailing Program (JSP)
One Alden, an 18' wooden John Alden-designed sloop "Sakonnet One-Design" is available for qualified Club members’ use when not in use by the JSP
Eleven 420’s are available for qualified Club members’ use when not in use by the JSP
Eighteen Optimists are available for qualified Club members' use when not in use by the JSP
Three Lasers - are available for qualified Club members’ use when not in use by the JSP
Twelve Club Dinghies - are available for members who have signed up and paid for their use during the season. [Members must return dinghies to the designated Club dinghy float after use.]
Four Stand Up Paddleboards (SUPs)
A 14' Boston Whaler, three rigid inflatables, and a 22' Tripp motor boat are owned by the Yacht Club. The Boston Whaler and the hard bottom inflatables are for the support of the Junior Sailing Program and the Tripp-22 is the Race Committee boat.
The Club cannot use these boats to provide launch service.
SAFETY
It is the Club’s specific intention to strongly promote safety, both on the water and on the Club property, for its members, their children, their guests and the summer staff.
- All children under 16 and non-swimmers must wear life jackets when on the pier, on the landing floats, or in a boat.
- No running or horseplay is permitted on the pier or on the landing floats.
- Swimming is not encouraged. No lifeguards are on duty.
- Children under 16 not under the supervision of sailing instructors during Junior Sailing Program activities must be
supervised by an adult. It is the swimmer’s responsibility to look out for incoming and departing boats.
- No Club sailboats may be taken out to sail if the member has not been satisfactorily qualified (checked out) in the
boat by a sailing instructor, the steward, or a Club officer, or if the weather conditions are deemed unsafe by the
head sailing instructor, the steward, or a Club officer.
- Boats should not be tied to the landing floats for more than 15 minutes. If there is a problem with the boat, please
contact the steward to work out an acceptable solution.
- Radio - The Steward monitors band #6.
